General Relativity, published in 1915, was Albert Einstein's mathematical attempt to explain gravity. He asserted that gravity is not a force. Einstein did not win the Nobel Prize for his theory of Relativity because the person assigned to review it did not understand it. Spacetime was a mathematical contrivance devised by Einstein to explain gravity. Gravity is a force composed of particles (gravitons) that have not yet been detected. Special Relativity, published in 1905, deals with the physics of the motion of bodies in the absence of gravitational forces, in which Maxwell's equations of electromagnetism were rendered compatible with a reformulation of the laws of motion.
